Clarification on two mantras

There are two mantras in the Veda which have caused some to claim that ‘Vishnu is supreme in relation to all other gods’. Sri Appayya Dikshitar has taken up both the mantras in his Anandalahari verse no. 36 and shown that the mantras in question are occurring in the context of certain yaga-s and the word ‘uttama’ referred to Vishnu in the mantras only mean that Vishnu comes ‘last=uttama’.
