पुण्यपापमयं देहं क्षपयन्कर्मसंक्षयात्।
क्षीणदेहः पुनर्देही ब्रह्मत्वमुपगच्छति।।
Abandoning virtues and sins, Jeeva attains Brahman-nature.
पुण्यपापक्षयार्थं हि साङ्ख्यज्ञानं विधीयते।
तत्क्षये हृदि पश्यन्ति ब्रह्मभावे परां गतिम्।।
Paraa-gati, Mukti,is to get direct knowledge from the Vedanta shravana, etc. and get established in one’s natural state of Brahmabhava.
।। इति श्रीमन्महाभारते शान्तिपर्वणि
मोक्षधर्मपर्वणि एकाशीत्यधिकद्विशततमोऽध्यायः।। 281।।
Sankhya Yoga, i.e. the knowledge of Vedanta, is necessary for the ultimate destruction of virtues and sins for a living being. This means attaining knowledge of Brahman in the prescribed manner: The Mahabharata tells us that Mukti is to attain this knowledge and remain in the state of Brahman after complete destruction of all prarabdha karma.
Lord Krishna also says in the Bhagavad Gita:
अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेबरम् ।
यः प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशयः ॥ ५ ॥ 8.5
नान्यं गुणेभ्यः कर्तारं यदा द्रष्टानुपश्यति ।
गुणेभ्यश्च परं वेत्ति मद्भावं सोऽधिगच्छति ॥ १९ ॥ 14.19
ब्रह्मभूतः प्रसन्नात्मा न शोचति न काङ्क्षति । 18.45
मां च योऽव्यभिचारेण भक्तियोगेन सेवते ।
स गुणान्समतीत्यैतान्ब्रह्मभूयाय कल्पते ॥ २६ ॥ 14.26
In all the above verses, the ‘becoming’ Brahman by the aspirant is stated.
Shankaracharya in his commentary on the Brahmasutra says:
Brahmabhavascha Moksha ब्रह्मभावश्च मोक्षः । 1.1.4 (SamanvayAdihikaraNa)
In this chapter of the Bhagavata, Mukti is described as:
श्रीमद्भागवतपुराणम्/स्कन्धः २/अध्यायः १०

मुक्तिर्हित्वान्यथारूपं स्वरूपेण व्यवस्थितिः ॥ ॥ ६ ॥
Let go of what is falsely known as oneself and attain to the right knowledge of one’s true nature.
Moksha is the realization of Brahmabhava. Thus Veda Vyasa has described Mukti as knowing one’s own nature, Brahman.
