This document is of the 14th Century CE. It says at the very beginning that it is a condensation of an earlier (now non-extant) work. It may be estimated that that earlier work is of 10th Century CE.

At the very least, even the 14th century date explodes the hateful Vaishnavite lie that it was in the time of Appayya Dikshita that people started portraying Adi sankara sacred ash. Vishnuists have written scurrilous hateful verses denigrating vibhuti.

Their tirade against Shiva, bhasma, etc. is born out of pathetic sectarianism. They wanted to paint Shankaracharya too in their color and hence these tactics.
